Entry Requirements / 入學要求:
(A) Applicants should fulfill any one of the following: (1) Level 2 in five subjects in Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination including Chinese Language and English Language (no more than two Applied Learning subjects can be used in the application*); or equivalent; or (2) Pass in one A Level or two AS Level subjects, plus five passes in HKCEE including Level 2/Grade E in Chinese Language and English Language; or equivalent; or (3) Satisfactory completion of the Yi Jin Diploma Programme; or (4) Satisfactory completion of a Pre-Associate Degree Programme, or equivalent; and (B) Applicants should demonstrate sign language proficiency at the intermediate level; or equivalent to A2 level of Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR); and [Mature applicants at the age of 21 or above who do not meet the above minimum admission requirement but possess a demonstrated ability (e.g. good presentation skills and communication ability in Hong Kong Sign Language, Chinese and English) to pursue the programme are eligible to apply for admission.] [* “Attained” and “Attained with Distinction” Level in Applied Learning subjects will be considered as equivalent to Level 2 and Level 3 in HKDSE subjects respectively.] (C) Applicants are required to attend a Hong Kong Sign Language proficiency test, a written test in Chinese and English and a face-to-face interview. Admissions will be subject to the decision of the selection committee.
Course Outline / 課程大綱:
(1) Module 1: Analyzing Sign Language Structure (26 hours + 4 hours of Assessment) (2) Module 2: Discourse Analysis for Sign Language Interpreters (26 hours + 4 hours of Assessment) (3) Module 3: Discourse Studies for Interpreting (30 hours) (4) Module 4: Professional Interpreting Role and Ethics (15 hours) (5) Module 5: Dialogic Interpreting Techniques (56 hours + 4 hours of Assessment) (6) Module 6: Monologic Interpreting Techniques (42 hours + 3 hours of Assessment) (7) Module 7: Interpreting Practicum (9 teaching and learning hours + 36 practicum hours)
Instructors' Qualifications / 導師資歷:
The instructor shall obtain a master degree or above with two years’ experience or above in teaching related subjects (e.g. Linguistics, Sign Linguistics and Sign Interpretation, etc.). [Teaching staff with professional experiences in sign interpretation and/or sign language research will be considered with higher priority for appointment.]
Assessment / 課程評核要求:
(A) Assessment Items and Their Weightings: (1) Module 1 & 2: Continuous assessment [Assignment (50%); Presentation (10%); class participation (10%); Test/Exam (30%)] (2) Module 3: Continuous assessment [Case studies (80%); Class participation (20%)] (3) Module 4: Continuous assessment [Case studies (50%); Assignment (30%); Presentation (20%)] (4) Module 5 & 6: Continuous assessment [Assignment (60%); Test/Exam (40%)] (5) Module 7: Continuous assessment [Portfolio (60%); Self-reflection essay(20%); Peer review (10%); Review reports compiled by employer/serving agencies (10%)] (B) Completion Requirements and CEF Reimbursement Requirements: (1) meet the 70% attendance requirement of Module 1-6 and Module 7 (9-hour teaching and learning); and (2) pass the assessments of each module. The passing mark is 50%. (3) have an attendance rate of 100% for the 36 practicum hours in Module 7
