Message from the Former Chairman
of the Council
Professor Richard HO Man-wui, JP

We understand that the retention of Hong Kong's standing as Asia's world city hinges on the nurturing of our human capital to cater for its diversified needs. Therefore, the Fund will continue to provide our students with opportunities to receive quality education and realise their potential, so that they can venture into new frontiers and gear up for the exciting challenges that lie ahead. We consider it very important to nurture young leaders who are eager to innovate, set new directions and make a difference if Hong Kong is to maintain its competitive edge in today's world. We consider it equally important to foster a culture of life-long learning across different sectors of society, for we believe that it is through continuous self-advancement and knowledge acquisition that our city can sustain the momentum in realising its potential to the full and rise to the challenges of the ever-changing global environment. We have in place a series of award schemes for people who strive to perfect themselves in terms of academic achievements and all-round personal development. In order to attract the best applicants for the benefit of society, a comprehensively informative website like this one is essential.

I invite you to browse our website not only for information, but also for inspiration. Generations of our applicants and awardees have been inspired by the selfless devotion of Sir Edward Youde in his loyal service to Hong Kong, and of Lady Youde in her untiring effort to create opportunities for our young talents, many of whom have since become sources of inspiration themselves.

Professor Richard HO Man-wui, JP
Former Chairman, Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund Council (2013 - 2019)
