Mr MAK Chi-cheong

Undergraduate student, Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong
Sir Edward Youde Memorial Scholarships 2014/15

Mr MAK Chi-cheong Suffering from asthma since childhood, I had to visit my family doctor frequently.  Despite realising the financial difficulty of my family, my doctor did not single me out from other patients and treated me with empathy and at the most reasonable cost.  Since then, I have had high regard for doctors and aspired to become one when I grew up.

My dream is beginning to come true and I am now a medical student of the University of Hong Kong.  I believe that medicine is a mix of arts and science and that doctors should not only cure diseases, but also heal people.  In addition, everyone should have equal rights to survive and receive medical treatment.  My ultimate goal is to join the Médecins Sans Frontières and to provide the best medical care, just like what I have received as a child, to people in developing countries.

I am honored to have received the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Scholarship and very much appreciate the support of the Fund.  It recognises my efforts and boosts my confidence, taking me one step closer to my career goals.  Thank you Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund!
