Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fellowships for Overseas Studies 1989/90

Mr Peter WONG Hing-hong I can still remember vividly the joy and excitement of receiving the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fellowships for Overseas Studies to study for the Master of Law in the University of Cambridge. The experience was extremely rewarding in terms of my personal and intellectual growth. It urged me to reflect on what I would wish to achieve and contribute in the following decades of my life and career. After a short stint as a solicitor trainee and an assistant solicitor in the private sector, I decided to pursue a career in public legal service. I have now served for over 20 years in the Government.

I am forever grateful for the international exposure and experience made possible by the Youde Fellowship. The studies and life at Cambridge have remained an enduring source of inspiration and encouragement as well as the intellectual foundation for my legal career in the government specialising in legal policy, constitutional and international legal work. The exchange with professors and fellow students from UK and other overseas jurisdictions, has helped to cultivate in me the principles of broad-mindedness and mutual respect. Above all, the Youde Fellowship has nurtured in me a deep sense of humility and appreciation. Our achievement and success are built on the kindness and generosity of a lot of people in the community.

May the Fund continue its good work and sponsor a new generation of students, who will not only realise their dreams, but also contribute to the community with gratitude.
