Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship (Specialized Training College Students)

History and Aim

The Scholarship Scheme was set up by the Japanese Government. It aims at providing an opportunity for students in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Hong Kong) who wish to study at Japanese specialized training colleges; giving them the necessary assistance for the pursuit of their studies; promoting international exchange in the fields of education, science and culture; and contributing to the mutual understanding and cooperation between Japan and Hong Kong.

Eligibility

  1. Nationality: Applicants must be Hong Kong residents who are holding Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Passport or Document of Identity.
  2. Age: Applicants must be born on or after 2 April 1997 (under 25 years old).
  3. Academic Background: Applicants must either complete a 12-year regular course of school education (i.e. graduated from Secondary 6) or have graduated from a school equivalent to an upper secondary school in Japan.
  4. Japanese Language: Applicants must be willing to study the Japanese language and receive specialized training college education in the medium of Japanese.

Value of Awards

The awards are normally tenable for three years (intensive course in Japanese language in the first year and specialized training program for two years). Each scholarship will cover admission fee, tuition fees, entrance examination fees, monthly stipend and round-trip ticket.

Method of Application

During the application period, application forms can be obtained in person at the Student Finance Office or downloaded from the website of Consulate-General of Japan in Hong Kong.

Selection

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to sit for a written test. Those who have outstanding performance in the written test will be invited to attend an interview.
