The Scholarship Scheme was set up by the Japanese Government in 1964. It aims at providing an opportunity for students in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Hong Kong) who wish to continue their studies at national universities in Japan; giving them the necessary assistance for the pursuit of their studies; promoting international exchange in the fields of education, science and culture; and contributing to the mutual understanding and cooperation between Japan and Hong Kong.
The awards are normally tenable for five years (intensive course in Japanese language in the first year and bachelor’s degree program for 4 years) except for those majoring in Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine or Pharmacy whose term of scholarship is seven years. Each scholarship will cover admission fee, tuition fees, monthly stipend and round-trip ticket.
During the application period, application forms can be obtained in person at the Student Finance Office or downloaded from the website of Consulate-General of Japan in Hong Kong.
