(b) Satisfactorily completed BSTC6079 Early Buddhism: a doctrinal exposition and BSTC6002 Mahayana Buddhism in the HKU Master of Buddhist Studies programme, or courses of Buddhist studies offered by another comparable institution accepted for this purpose. Note: Applicants who do not fulfil (a) and/or (b) above may be invited to attend the “Buddhist Studies Foundation Course (BSFC)*” or take a qualifying examination. They will be considered for admission if they have satisfactory performance in the BSFC/qualifying examination. *The BSFC is designed for selected MBC applicants who have not fulfilled the prerequisites in Buddhist Studies. The course aims to equip students with fundamental Buddhist knowledge to prepare them for the study of Buddhist counselling. Course details will be provided to selected applicants after initial short-listing. Course Outline / 課程大綱: (I) 3 core courses (108 hours): (1) BSTC7600 Theories and practice in Buddhist counselling I (36 hours) (2) BSTC7601 Theories and practice in Buddhist counselling II (36 hours) (3) BSTC7602 Spiritual formation through contemplative practices (36 hours) (II) 4 elective courses from the list* below (144 hours): (4) BSTC7603 Dharma therapy (36 hours) (5) BSTC7604 Awareness training program (36 hours) (6) BSTC7605 Being with the elderly, sick and dying (36 hours) (7) BSTC7606 Buddhist homiletics: The art of presenting Buddhist teachings (36 hours) (8) BSTC7607 Buddhist liturgy and rituals (36 hours) (9) BSTC7608 Buddhist mediation (36 hours) (10) BSTC7609 Special topics in Buddhist counselling (1) (36 hours) (11) BSTC7610 Special topics in Buddhist counselling (2) (36 hours) (12) BSTC6055 Buddhist psychology I (36 hours) (III) 1 capstone experience (36 hours): (13) BSTC8998 Capstone Experience (36 hours) (*The courses offered vary each year and the list above is subject to change) Instructors' Qualifications / 導師資歷: Should normally possess postgraduate degree/ PhD in Buddhist Studies / related fields or with minimum of 8 years' teaching experience. The passing grade for each course is D (equivalent to 50%). (C) CEF Reimbursement Requirements: (1) The student should complete and pass 8 courses to fulfil the graduation requirement. The passing grade for each course is D (equivalent to 50%). (2) Overall mark of course assessments not less than 50%. (3) Attendance: not less than 70%.
